The Simple Stepper is a single-axis handheld pendant for driving any 4-wire stepper motor. The ambidextrous pistol-grip form factor allows one-handed operation. It ships with a 3.2 A power supply and coil-paired MTS insulated alligator-clip leads so motors can be connected and swapped in seconds. All components are arranged for free airflow so the electronics stay cool under continuous use.
A wall-mount clip/holster is included for storage. The clip has mounting holes on standard aluminum extrusion slot spacings.
Operation is local via the LCD, encoder knob, and dedicated FW / RV / stop buttons. Nine built-in modes cover typical single-axis needs:
- Continuous rotation under knob control
- Momentary continuous rotation (runs while the button is held)
- Continuous rotation that starts and stops on button press
- Fixed-distance move followed by a delay, repeated for a set number of cycles
- Fixed-distance move + delay + cycles, then automatic return to start
- Bidirectional cycling (forward–delay–reverse–delay) for a set number of cycles
- Continuous rotation until the button is released, then delay and return to start
- Timed rotation followed by a delay, repeated for a set number of cycles
- Automatic bidirectional cycling that starts on power-up
Speed, distance, delays (to over 16 minutes in 100 ms increments), cycle count (over 9000(!) or continuous), microstepping, and acceleration/deceleration are all adjustable and retained through power cycles. Open-loop only.
The Simple Stepper is the lightweight, single-axis option for manual or lightly automated motion. For multi-axis coordinated motion, automated probing sequences, temperature control, network coordination, or closed-loop feedback, use the MTS PLC multi-axis controller.
