UHV KP Head with sample translator
For some Kelvin Probe (KP) users, a versatile combination can be achieved by combining an ultra-high vavuum (UHV) KP head with a simple test stand for use in atmosphere. The sample is mounted on an insulated block which is, in turn, mounted on a small, single axis translator. An aluminum main frame provides a base for both the UHV KP and the sample translator.
In use, either the sample or the tip is grounded and the preamplifier detects the signal on the other. The removable shield, shown above, helps to isolate the sample/tip reigon from stray electrical noise. The BNC connector shown in this photo is for the sample.
