A handy tool
For some Kelvin Probe (KP) users, a versatile combination can be achieved by combining an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) KP head with a simple test stand for use in atmosphere.
The sample is mounted on an insulated holder which is, in turn, mounted on a small, single axis translator for fine adjustment of tip-sample spacing.
Elongated slots allow the sample holder to be repositioned for various lengths of KP head. A metal main frame provides a base for both the UHV KP Head and the sample translator.
In use, either the sample or the KP tip is grounded and the preamplifier detects the signal on the other component.
The removable shield, shown above, helps to isolate the sample/tip region from stray electrical noise.
The BNC connector shown behind the sample holder allows the sample to be connected to the preamplifier or grounded.
